I would suggest either using level 3's own DNS 4.2.2.2 (which makes sense as I believe they are the company that hosts the game for square) or using one of the many free DNS available. This worked for me and I was having the same exact issue as the op. The best solution to this issue is NOT to use some crappy VPN but to rather change your DNS info on the IPV4 and to disable IPV6 during the process.

The problem is with the ISP of the user and the automatic DNS settings they are using, for whatever reason some of our service providers are giving us DNS info that the patcher doesnt communicate well with. Most of the time people are told to download a free VPN to fix the issue as a means of bypassing the problem. This is an issue you can see cropping up for allot of people, a quick google search would show you that many folks are having the same issue as the OP. Until recently it was illegal to throttle specific types of internet traffic if the customer resided within Europe (the ISP could throttle your connection at specific times, but they couldn't differentiate between types of traffic in order to throttle it), however I believe that law must have changed recently as many EU-based ISPs have started to throttle P2P connections. without 3,000+ people it's down to the individual to complain to their ISP about it. Simmilar thread for UK ISPs īasically, from a legal perspective, square enix needs at least 3,000+ "signatures" reporting any given ISP in order to take any action, ofc if they complain to an ISP it's possible that the ISP will choose to take action without any legal proceedings.

(though they don't cause issues if I leave them running) In reality the reason I've never had a problem is because my ISP doesn't throttle P2P traffic, my router is relatively new and doesn't have any ports blocked, I've never used networking programs on my PC (Hamachi for example can SERIOUSLY mess with the way your PC handles network traffic if you mess around with it) and my firewall/antivirus are generally disabled whenever I'm playing games. By your logic that means your speed is too low. I can download a GigaByte in a little under 1 minute, I've never had an issue with the launcher failing to patch.
